The Momentum of the Identity Crisis
The T.J. Maxx breach is just more fodder for the eventual showdown in the identity crisis. As the article indicates, "...it was a very well orchestrated, targeted attack...same people who have broken into systems at other retailers." Interpreted, the ID thieves are even beginning to specialize. And yes, they are "piecing together" information on the millions of their victims. I don't have proof of this yet, but with the entry of organized crime into the identity theft "industry," the sophistication has grown to the point now that the crooks maintain their own databases on American consumers, and will use the sensitive data in a very planned and organized way to steal from the public.

As a former data broker, I can assure you that the trend is to collect every scrap of information that can be had by any firm or organization in the business of dealing with consumers. There is no "unnecessary" data, as referred to in the article by Daniel Forte. Business and government consider every morsel ripe for the taking. And they will continue to take it and use it in any way they choose until consumers revolt and scream...NO MORE!

It is at that time that we must give the individual control over their names and personal data, and pay them each time it is sold. Read more on my blog, "The Dunning Letter" at:
