You make good points. But it DOES matter which OS was compromised. Would you be happy to read article after article with headlines like "Car Bursts Into Flames", or, "Yet Another Car Bursts Into Flames". What if you then found yourself looking to buy a car? Suddenly, it would matter which model of car was bursting into flames. Especially if car vendor advertising invariably read "The most flame proof car ever".
