That kills me to hear a security company refer to any threat as "minimal" such that they don't do anything about it. Granted, the fix for the vulnerability has been available, but why isn't there a more proactive response from Symantec to help patch their customers' systems?

Minimal effect... MY A$$...!

From the sound of the symptoms alone, a client of mine last month fell victim to this "minimal" threat. He's got a small business with about 10 computers in his office. He had Symantec's Corporate AV solution installed on his servers and most of his workstations. He got it cheap from another friend of his.

It cost him about $3000 to have me rebuild his workstations, plus another #1000 in software. To a large corporation, that's chump change, but to a small business owner who's still building his business, it's the difference between feast and famine.

What I found - his Antivirus solution which was installed in March of last year had NEVER updated once since it was installed. That's including the patch fixing the issue at hand.

Hmmm.. Wonder if a law suit is in order...
