- Why do you anti-Mac Zealots call us Mac users zealots?
-
Most Windows users don't give a hoot about apple one way or the other. Some
have used iPods and maybe they like the way they work. Maybe a few will switch.
But then there's a small minority of Windows users who think that anyone who
chooses to run another operating system than Windows is a zealot or a moron. I
for one use a Mac because it's GUI is superior to Windows, it's security is better
than Windows, and it's much more stable and multitasks better than Windows, not
to mention Mac hardware is actually designed instead of throwing a lot of
hardware in a tin box and it actually works when you plug it in. Macintosh uses
plug and play instead Windows plug and pray. I mention this because of Apple's
better hardware-software integration. Windows does an excellent job of running
on a huge variety of hardware. Unfortunately not all of the hardware is compatible
with other available hardware. Then you have driver incompatibilities, because
nobody takes responsibility when a problem occurs because each item works
individually but not together. Still the fact that so many different hardware and
software items work with Windows is a tribute to Windows Universality.
My problem is not with the Windows which is a good product or Windows users
who are basically most people who use computers. My problem is with the few
Windows users who continually bash Macintosh or any other operating system
that's not Windows. You see the same thing with Linux users. They get pretty
agitated when you bash their operating system as well.
I say this because I've been using Macintosh since 1990 or so. I've heard the
insults, the missinformation, the FUD for 15 years, and it's all a lot of garbage. We
Mac users don't use Macs because we belong to the cult of Steve Jobs. Most Mac
users like Steve Jobs because he saved our platform from going under in the mid
90s and under his leadership OSX was produced. OSX is the greatest thing Apple
has done since I've been using Macs. Before that all Macintosh did was, along with
Adobe change the face of the publishing industry with the biggest innovation
since the Gutenberg Press.
Again, going back to the 90s, Apple made some bonehead decisions, lost focus of
its purpose and expanded into too many markets at once and it cost them,
basically too many chiefs and not enough indians. But the thing that really hurt
Apple during those days was FUD and missinformation. The anti-Mac zealots were
really powerful in those dark days and the doom and gloom naysayers were
almost successful in putting Apple out to pasture. Every Apple article started with
"The beleagured Apple" People would come up to us Mac users every day and
proclaim that Apple is going out of business or Disney is buying Apple or some
other truthless rumor. When Steve Jobs returned to Apple, he put control into an
out of control company. He made it a smaller more focussed company that made
money. It's not so much "Steve Jobs the man," but the bigger than life "Steve Jobs
the legend" that did it. Gil Amelio tried to do and started the turn-around, but
Steve Jobs settled the lawsuit with Microsoft that the anti-Mac zealots say never
existed and made the cuts that anyone else would have been canned for doing.
Then Apple made the iMac, a killer product. The whole time the rumors and the
FUD were rampant, but Apple overcame the adversity and if you have bought
Apple shares at $12 back then you would very rich now.
This bug a day thing is FUD, pure FUD. You could take XP or even Vista and do a
bug an hour. You don't have to run all the security suites and all that processor,
hard drive, and time consuming crap, because there are virtually no viruses,
worms, or spyware out in the wild for Mac. And to the Fudsters who claim that the
only reason Macs don't get that stuff is because of their measely 5% market share,
that's a load of garbage. Macs don't have 5% of the viruses and malware, they
don't have 1% or even one tenth of 1%. Marketshare may be a factor, but the
difficulty exploiting OSX compared to the difficulty exploiting Windows is the main
factor then devide it by the payoff if you do exploit OSX. Still Mac users should
always be cautious, because one day a big Mac bug is going to wreck havoc on a
few people. But with all the Mac FUD and the anti-Mac "I told you sos, it should be
public news withing one day of occurrence.
The reason Mac users tend to be called zealots is because of all the crap and FUD
we've heard over the past 15-20 years which is created for one reason, to
eliminate our choice of operating systems. We get a little sensitive. I may be
wasting time defending my favorite choice of operating systems or more
importantly my ability to choose operating systems. But even you anti-Mac zealots
who insist upon eliminating my choice of operating systems have to admit if there
were no Apple, you guys would be using DOS 22 or something like that and
probably on Pentium 2's, although AMD, in recent years is probably more
responsible for processor improvement. Still the need for processor intensive
graphics, media players and basically more features can be attributed to Mac/
Windows competition. Remember when Bill Gates said, "Why would anyone need
more than 640K RAM?
Why can't we all be happy members of a comper using community and respect
other people's operating system choices without bashing them constantly? - Posted by: MacGeek2121 Posted on: 01/15/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
