Long-term Temp

Many times the temp agency is holding the rule book for the company, but doesn't give the worker more than a synopsis. So the poor slob is not aware of all the nuances of the employee policy when they take an assignment and the company ustilizing them makes the assumption that the person was briefed at the agency. Having done the temp thing in the past, I know this happens often (but luckily not to me).

By designating certain employees as temps, the employer doesn't have to pay unemployment taxes on them. They also do not have to provide benefits or give more than a "get out of my building NOW" notice to dismiss. By not having to provide the benefits, the employer can dump at will and keep the money that should have been spent and call it profit.

This is why many companies are outsourcing the work to foreign countries. The employer doesn't have to provide for employees-just make a profit. When the worker is gone (for whatever reason), just pull in another one and keeps going.
