Adobe is the problem
Acrobat reader has been a bloated resource hog for awhile now. It consistently continues utilizing resources even after closing the program. The update nag screens are annoying as well. If you're still using it, consider something else. I like Foxit Reader (also free).

But I also wonder if this is an exploit exclusive to Adobe or if other PDF readers are vulnerable.
