It doesn't take much to figure out why law enforcement wants expanded power. It's in their own self-interest. By it's nature law enforcement should be difficult. This difficulty helps protect the liberty of the people.

The Patriot act is an assault on our Constitution. This is perfectly clear to any thinking person. Our Constitutional protections were included for good and obvious reasons. They should not be disposed of for the sake of expediency or for some illusion of security. What good is this "protection" when we have to destory what we are supposedly protecting in order to protect it?

The fact that certain provisions were sunsetted in the original bill was the main point used to counter those with Constitutional concerns. But those who think, understand that once attained, government rarely if ever relinquishes power or control over the people.

Bush is a very poor choice but Kerry would be worse. We have no positive options.
