Eco-terror neologism
Not trying to have a go at you Declan and I'm certainly not trying to discount the seriousness of the mentioned crimes (I have little sympathy for the perpetrators), but I find your use of the "eco-terror" neologism questionable.

Precisely how is animal welfare an environmental issue? Speaking as someone who has ecology as the strong point of an environmental science major (with admittedly just one subject to go), your equivocation boggles me.

You should realise that the term "ecoterrorism" is a neologism generated by an author (Ron Arnold) from a hegemonic think tank, designed to smear the environmentally-minded.

Your use of it (especially in an oft repeated inaccurate fashion) is quite to the detriment of your article and indeed any claim to impartiality ZDNET may claim. The term is loaded with an abundance of false presupposition.

Respectfully, I hope this is journalistic oversight.

Bruce

PS. I have made reference to this article on my blog. Am not sure about ZDNET's URL-in-comments policy so I'll email you the link on request if you are at all interested. It's scathing of the term, but not scathing of you.
