64 bit desktop Clients are dead; With that goes Vista 64
IDC just continues telling Microsoft shareholders that 60 percent of the assumed market for the product doesn't exist. (the only market for vista is home consumers and that market is only 40 percent.)How many ways can these honest fellows get the word out. Sigh, it is as Gates says: "Folks hear what they want to.".

This is what is going on in the corporate world:

First, SUSE Linux is being demanded by the Financial Institution Microsoft clients. Already Microsoft is rumored to have sold the 70,000 coupons from the Novell/Mcrosoft marriage, these going to large bank companies. Microsoft needs to negotiate for more. The company may well become the largest reseller of Linux on the planet.

Second, the corporate world is centralizing its applications on 32/64 bit multiprocessor multicore servers. They are doing this in a variety of ways, many involving virtualization but all turning the client work station into the equivalent of a 3270 or Citrix Terminal. It is likely that that PC sitting on a workers desk today will be the same PC sitting on that desk 10 years from now, unless the worker gets a laptop.

Of course the laptop will be energy efficient, meaning multi-processor multi-core, and I suppose multi-64s will be attractive.

Finally, the business world isn't interested in Vista until perhaps 2008. Darn, my Vista Pro upgrade from Best Buy (a disk is promissed to be mailed in April or May) will likely go unused .
