License IT workers
It is seriously time to consider licensing IT workers in the US. These time bombs have been with the industry for at least 30 years. The one case I delt with 30 years ago involved a high level programmer/manager who quit but intended to work from time to time at the same hospital as a high priced consultant. When there was a database corruption we had little choice but to hire back the fellow who corrected the problem and likely removed the code that caused it. I couldn't prove a thing. The Administrator didn't care. This was a private hospital but still funded by the US government through a cost plus arangement for medicaid and medicare. The government no longer funds hospitals that way and even shares recovered costs with whistleblowers now. Yet it still obviously still goes on.
