- Who's the bigger fool?
-
One who listens to the fool when he sounds foolish or one that doesn't listen and labels him a fool because he doesn't know him?
I wouldn't discard the amount of talent the internet can hold and how easy it is to get a ZDNet membership. You could have Sean Conery tell you that you don't know how to act and not know it was him.
Anyways cryptography is still a young industry and there are a lot of talented people that keep their talents hidden from the professional world, after all who wants to be important to organized crime or the law for that matter.
I'd be more interested in knowing what kind of computers they are refering to, if it's going to take 400 super computers then it's not possible today but if they are talking PC's then there are machines out there with the processing power to decrypt such things in less time. But I'm sure they were referring to the latter.
Also the usage of memory is very important in decryption and branch algarythms if your going to attempt the task then the more memory the better. Yes you'll need computational power but it's the combination that is more useful then any single.
Also if you remember a movie out in the early 80's called sneakers with Robert Redford and Dan Akroyd you'll recall a concept of shortcuting mathematically ALL encryption. While the concept is far fetched the reality is some encryption algorythm's do have a shortcut. In the early days this was possible, these days encryption is often more sophisticated. But never discard an individual willing to try, case in point the deemed undecipherable DVD encryption it took a bunch of swedish scientists with too much time on their hands and a couple of all-nighters.
your own minds are short sighting your narrow opinions, adjust, adapt and compensate.
