Is it security or obscurity?
"Microsoft is under no obligation to share their source code"

I didn't say they were, I am suggesting that their DRM is cryptographically flawed and not capable of surviving peer review of the code by security professionals.

"Neither does Adobe or anyone else selling proprietary software. "

Not so, 3DES is a commerical algo used in banking.
e.g. 3DES source is here:
http://www.cr0.net:8040/code/crypto/des/
It's common practise in the encryption world to release the code for peer review.

I'm pointing out by my comments that this DRM is just a security by obscurity system. Since the encryption isn't secure, the DRM 'rules' can't be enforced because they are easily bypassed.
