- It gives more info than you seem to believe...
-
I'll agree that it would have been nice to have a link to the patch itself in this article but, other than that, I think this article gives more information than for which you give it credit...
It says in the first paragraph that this involves Symantec Client Security and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. As far as I know (and I'm sure that someone will correct me if I mis-state this), the 'Norton' products are for individual consumers and the products with 'Symantec' in the name are the versions for businesses. So, saying that the affected products are SYMANTEC Client Security and SYMANTEC AntiVirus Corporate Edition indicates that this is for the corporate versions of their software.
If you have Norton software (like I have Norton Internet Security) then you shouldn't have to worry about this unless you've turned off all Live Updates and things like that. I don't know if this EVER affected the Norton products but, if so, then Live Update would have automatically applied this patch long ago.
If the version that you have through work is a Symantec product then I'm not sure if it will have an option for automatic Live Updates or not. The place for which I work doesn't allow automatic updates like that but I can still go out and click on the Live Update button in Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and it goes out, finds, downloads, and applies all patches and new AV definitions.
So, the consumer version checks for updates automatically and applies them and the corporate version gives you a button to click which will then cause it to do the same thing as the consumer version (just not automatically). How much easier do you think Symantec can make patching than that?
By the way, it just occurred to me that there might not be a link to this patch. One thing that I've complained about for years is that Symantec doesn't make their patches available to be downloaded outside of their products. No other product that I use has that same restriction and it's caused me a lot of grief in the past. That's about the only thing which I think of that M$ does better than Symantec.
