AVG good as any other
If you're not a professional tester with a test lab backing you up, you're results are meaningless, especially as three independent labs (Virus Bulletin, ICSALabs, AV-Test.org) have passed AVG with flying colors for 'in the wild' viri and have done so for some time now. I doubt Grisoft makes a crippled detection engine for their free version, that would be lunatic and dishonorable. Their pay-for version has more features but I doubt it has better detection. NOTHING is perfect... there's always new malware... but if you don't use an antivirus and keep it UP TO DATE, then it's soon useless. One of AVG's strengths is that it's not an all-in-one swiss army knife purporting to protect you from everything under the sun... and so burden the hell out of your PC and op sys... and another is that it updates automatically and does it well... so for the vast majority of home users... it is orders of magnitude better than not having anything or having the supposed 'best' and not keeping it up to date. There will alwasy be victims of bleeding edge malware... but AVG does NOT 'suck'. and definitely no more than ANY other antivirus... but that's my opinion. Most users that need AV, don't bother to keep it up to date. AVG will, automatically.
