Which is the better approach?
From the article:
"Mozilla also offers phishing protection in Firefox 2. By default, the Firefox feature works with downloaded blacklists of known phishing sites. IE 7, by contrast, checks in with Microsoft to see if a site is known to be untrustworthy."

I've turned off many startup entries which want to check for updates. Updates do not occur often enough.

But this is a case in which checking frequently can be useful. Many phishing sites are evanescent, might be gone before a new list can appear, but after successfully obtaining information on a number of users.

I wonder how often people have prevented access to Microsoft's database with their firewalls, though.

And whether it's efficient to check with Microsoft for every site, as this implies.

I think the Microsoft approach is probably more effective. Other views?
