Sounds like a...
Marketing scheme to me.

Microsoft: "Our older products are no longer secure, it's time for everyone to
upgrade to windows vista and office 2007"

windows user: "But i just bought xp, you said it was the most secure OS ever. Now
you want me to fork over $1000 for this "new" software?"

Microsoft: "You're probably a pirate anyways. You need to buy new licenses,
as it's time to renew!"

Mac user: "What am I to do? If there are this many critical flaws in office, without
any possible patches coming out (for the foreseeable future), what do I do?"

Microsoft: "It's not our fault you chose to run an "inferior OS". You need to buy a
license for windows vista, one for office 2007 and burn the copies of Mac OS X
. Remember Apple is Evil, Linux is a Cancer. Only the pure of
heart run 100% microsoft 100% of the time. Look at our shinning examples of Pure
people, Loverock Davidson, No_Ax_to_Grind Shadetree and NonZealot. They are
the righteous that know the way to salvation is the use of 100% microsoft 100% of
the time.
