A very good reason.
Symantec software is whats commonly known as heaven and hell software. Its heaven when its working right and you have no problems arise and its hell the minute you have a problem. Ive used a few Norton products over previous years and while everything was working right I was quite impressed with what a software package like SystemWorks Premier could do.

I also know several people who felt the same way and a couple who still do. Norton security is pretty tight when its working right and the SystemWorks suite provides a lot of useful utilities. But of course the catch phrase is "so long as nothing goes wrong". The fact is a heavy computer user who does alot of different things with their computer sooner or later gets something a little glitched up somewhere and thats typically when Symantec products act like a bail of binding wire caught up in a chainsaw.

The people who love Symantec products are usually relatively light computer users who are never doing anything complex or adventurous with their computer and just want a solid security and utilities program and thats when Norton usually fits the bill. Such users that I am talking about never notice the slowdown in their system from Norton's intrusive behavior and they never break their system because all they do is email, chat and look at photos. These people can have the same computer for 3 years and never even know what a defrag is.

On the other hand people who do a lot of things and spend alot of time on their computer sooner or later end up doing something that dosnt work quite right and suffer the consequences of an invasive software product that gets jammed in the process. Of course it only gets better when they finally figure out the only way to stop the Symantec product in question from crippling their system in the process is to uninstall it. Then they run into the very real likelihood that they cant get rid of part of the software they need to or perhaps it will not uninstall correctly at all.

Despite all that, the fact remains that Symantec/Norton products are very popular because there are still millions who do so little with their computer they never break it in such a way that is affects Norton, so for them Norton provides a lot of solid service when nothing goes wrong and they are not the type who notice their computer takes 30% longer to boot then before the overly invasive Symantec product was installed.
