Still don't see the point..
At least not for the anti-virus products. Having a copy of the program doesn't give you a lifetime subscription to the updates, without which the program is of little value. Symantec, McAfee, etc practically give the main product away anyway in order to hook you on buying the update subscription. Like giving away the razor to sell the blades.
I also have access to a DoD copy, but dropped it in favor of AVG, which protects me just as well, never breaks and is far less resource-hungry.
