They DID ignore them until forced to A), admit them, and B), come up with possible fixes for them.

When you ship garbage code, you have no right to be proud that you're fixing some of the flaws.

You're right, though, it does take time to develop a workable fix and test it on a bunch of system configurations. It would be unfair to demand or expect fixes at the snap of the fingers.

The best fix, of course, is to load the "patch" available at www.openoffice.org . . !
