It depends upon sucker users opening and running the attachment. Yes, it would work on any platform - provided the attached program could run in whatever environment it found itself.

Except that in certain OS systems, like Linux for example, the fact that the system was built from the ground up so that users have limited rights, means you can comprimise the entire PC by running the file, unless you are root (the admin). Yeah, I know MS has implemented similar Linux-like features. The problem is, since they haven't built their system this way from the ground up, in an MS shop, you still have to give users higher permission levels than you would in a *nix environment, because the applications written for the OS require the higher permissions level.
