RE: Another suspected NASA hacker indicted
How about if I found a way to pick the lock on the door to your house and decide to come in while you are not there? YOU must think that the lock will keep me out, otherwise, you would not use it. I would not take anything - I just want to walk around in your house while you're gone for the day. Should you just let me continue to come in to your house while you are gone?

How about if I came in to your house while you were there and just slept on the couch for a while. Would you let me? Or would you praise me for figuring out how to come in to your house without taking/disturbing anything?

How about if I just used your car (you locked it, too, correct? I would not hurt it - I would just like to ride around for a while. The point is, it is not my house and it is not my car. If I want to loan them to you that is one thing, but to come and take the use of it without your permission is not right. The same thing with the NASA (or anyone's) computer - it is not theirs - if I want to loan it to you, okay. If you come in without my permission, it is trespass or worse. Don't forget, the people that broke in to the machines were not smart as was earlier suggested - they got caught!

It is not possible to guard against every type of break in. At the time, we think we have a secure system until someone comes along and points out the flaws. These people, I don't believe, are just doing this to show the flaws in the system - they are doing it to exploit a weakness that was not known to the network admin at the time. As some of the others pointed out, don't be too quick to judge these people - after all, they are showing you where the flaws are.

I believe that those people SHOULD be judged, and judged for the criminals that THEY have proved themselves to be no matter what country they are from.
