Unless you are referring to M$ AV program... most other AV programs allow you to control "when and how" to update.... not on every boot. And the call home is for UPDATES... not VALIDATION! Perhaps you need to visit wikipedia for clarification. M$ gray ethical tactics have shown that they over stepped their bounds too many times. I understand that they want to stop piracy, but questionable tactics and witch hunting is not the way to do it...
