Marketshare has always counted
Certainly when measuring numbers of users, as I'm doing here, marketshare would obviously be relevant.

Marketshare does provide many benefits, particularly network effects, availablity of some niche products, games, etc. But the importance of this is really going to be up to the individual user, how much they need those odd products, how much they need to play games, how much they need to interact with other people using a locked-in product.
