I wish I could lose 40 poun . . . Oh, they meant the currency. About $75 USD. Depending on the needs of the business, though, it can be more or less. A single computer can be protected at about $40, and some network solutions can be $80 or more.

"Eventually, we'll move to a model of software as a service, with a low-cost environment of managed security services"

Agree and disagree. Software as a service works fine for some software, poor for others. We've been talking about software as a service for 10+ years. It's just never gonna happen completely. For some software, it works, that's fine, but for some it doesn't, so there will always be software that's not going to be used that way.

"However, application software should have security built in from the beginning"

Agree and disagree. Yes, software should be built secure from the start. But, there are limits - do you want anti-virus software to come with every product? Of course not, that would be unnecessarily redundant. So there's always going to the need for be other software to complement existing security measures in existing software.
