I know that. OS X is more than modified, though.
For example, their implementation of NFS is so bass-ackwards that it doesn't work with other, standards-compliant, flavors of UNIX.
Also, Apple claims that their product is compatible with Active Directory. Except that they screwed up their CIFS implementation, too, so you have to disable encryption on the Domain Controller to get the Mac to play nice.
Before I get too carried away, I'll cut myself off with "It Just Works. . .My ass!"

(of course, billing $125/hour to integrate Macs with Active Directory was pretty lucrative...perhaps I shouldn't bite the hand that feeds.)
