The parrallels are striking!
Prior to 911 there had never been a successfull large scale foreign based terrorist attack on American soil. Because of this our security became lax. We did not feel the sense of urgency we should have.

Because Linux and Unix are advertised as being so secure and are seldom attacked the people administering these systems have become lax on security. They do not feel any urgency to apply patches. They don't enforce strong password practices.

The point is all software is flawed. Security is more about the person administering the system then it is the OS itself. Security must be elevated to a priority status in all IT departments.
