Like the cell system.. it is not if, but when..
The Cellular system was forced to accept fed wireless wiretapping by them making it illegal to get any cellular switch that did not have the capability built in. The Internet already has Eschalon and Carnivore, and so far as my sources know, the system is going to have to accept them. The Govt is the ultimate mafioso protection racquet. They make it illegal for routers to be produced which do not have the carnivore back door and all your isps will have to integrate with the system as they upgrade their systems. All corps and individuals running private nets will have to do this as well. It will be basically painless, but the systems will be put into place.

Orwell was an optimist.
