If you read the article, you would find that it is not microsoft telling who can be trusted, an outside certification agency does that. The green bar is only triggered by the verification of the certificate. That means that microsoft is neither being innovative or controlling, just that they are going to adopt a strategy to help visually see a site is trusted.

As far as lowering your setting to play music? I have no idea what you are talking about, as I have never had a problem playing any legitimate music, although DRM may change that too, but again, that is not started by microsoft, but by apple.
