There must be something wrong.
We installed IE7 on 10 test machines with no problem, after that we pushed it to another 75 machines, and there was 1 problem, but that 1 problem could not be credited to IE7, especially since the other 84 machines did not have a problem. Although there is one hint, install it as an admin that will stay, IE a corporate admin account, a standard local admin account, do not install it as a user with admin privelages, if you do, and that user leaves, you erase the account, then later you may have trouble updating or removing IE7.

Other than that, for us it has a high success rate.
