Once again
In the teaser e-mail (but surprisingly not in the article it references), Dan Farber says, '"America cannot solve its cyber-security challenges by delegating them to government officials or CIOs," task force leaders wrote. Treating the problem as a corporate governance issue and making top executives culpable makes sense, but I don't expect to see CEOs monitoring firewalls. Mostly like, it means a chief security officer will take a seat on the executive board and audit committees will monitor compliance with security policies -- at least for those companies that can allocate budget for a cybersecurity cop.'

And all I have to say is that it's amazing that once again, a ZD author provides cover for CIOs that don't want to actually have to do their jobs but this time, rather than the usual "here's how you can justify not implementing this new technology", instead we get, "here's why you should pass the buck on to somebody new".

So, Dan, what is it you actually DO see CIOs being responsible for? It isn't new technology, it isn't security, it isn't day-to-day support, so how DO you justify their CxO status?

Just curious...
