If it is so embarrassing, start by . . . .
getting rid of all those Windows servers. Then continue with the desktop. Start with replacing the biggest virsus risks: Outlook and IE. Continue with OpenOffice. Start replacing proprietary applications running only on Windows one at a time. Sooner or later you will be able to move the majority of desktops to Linux, with the others going out the door one at a time. Eventually you will be able to unplug the last Windows box sitting in the corner running

You can then throw a party. Let the employees take turns swinging an axe at the last Windows computer. There are years of frustration built up that then need to get out.
