Userland, its nap time for you!
Wrong. Completely wrong.

Nuh uh. You are wrong. Completely wrong. Wow, I didn't realize winning an argument could be as simple as saying "You are wrong"! I've been doing it the hard way all this time, you know, gathering facts, providing evidence, stringing information together in a logical manner. But that's a real time waster when all I could be saying is "Wrong. Completely wrong."! Thanks Userland!!!

Does Thunderbird handle tar archives or RPM packages? Nope. Nice try, but nothing get executed. Thunderbird has no means to act on these strange non-MIME attachments.

Maybe have someone do the reading for you since you are obviously incapable. Here, let me copy what I said about this from my last post. I know you didn't understand it the first time but maybe if your babysitter reads it for you this time, it might sink in:
Hmm, I must have just imagined installing Thunderbird on Windows then? I can safely ignore the rest of your paragraph because your problem sounds like it has to do more with 5 year old versions of Outlook Express than anything to do with Windows.

Again, your little temper tantrum seems to be about really old versions of Outlook Express. When you are ready to talk about Windows, let me know.

About not being able to execute attachments directly, you are right (although this is a function of Thunderbird, not of Linux). However, if my grandmother gets a neato FREE_DANCING_ELVES.rpm email from me and the body says: save this and run it for a neato show!!! will grandma stop because it won't execute directly from Thunderbird? No. She'll save it and run it, just like she would do if she ran Thunderbird on Windows. You seem all focused on this "automatic" running of executables when that doesn't even happen with Outlook Express and it certainly doesn't happen in Thunderbird on Windows. Hate Outlook Express all you want but you can't seem to find anything wrong with Windows. Like I said, I've actually run this test and it took fewer steps to execute an attachment from KMail on Kubuntu than from Outlook on Windows. Haven't tried Thunderbird on Linux (I do use it in Windows though) so I won't pull a Userland and just make stuff up.

And, in the case of downloading attachments, Thunderbird's default behavior is to change permissions on all downloaded files to 644.

Neato. Your tar file has 644 permissions. Now, untar it and see what permissions all the executables inside it have.

Userland, I'm going to ask you not to reply to this post. You see, I use Linux and we users of Linux like to maintain the impression that we are all brilliantly intelligent... more intelligent than, say, Carrot Top. Your last couple posts fall far below this level and if you post one more time with such idiocy, we users of Linux are going to have to ask you to uninstall Linux and buy a Mac. It's what Carrot Top uses. Have a nice day! happy
