Even more nonsense
Thunderbird on Fedora will politely ask if I wish to download any executable file attached to an email.

Hmm, I must have just imagined installing Thunderbird on Windows then? I can safely ignore the rest of your paragraph because your problem sounds like it has to do more with 5 year old versions of Outlook Express than anything to do with Windows.

Either way, I have to explicitly download the attachment, locate the attachment on my local drive in another program (Xterm, Konsole or Konqueror), su myself and set the executable flag.

Unless the attachment is a .rpm. Or the executable was tarred with the execute bit enabled. When untarred, gosh, the execute bit is on!! I've counted the steps required to execute email attachments in both Kubuntu and Windows and guess what: Kubuntu required fewer steps. Regardless, Linux has the execute bit, Windows XP flags all files downloaded from the Internet and won't allow you to run them without acknowledging a warning first. Both methods do the job.

At first you'll be amazed...then shocked...then angered when you consider the history of Microsoft being warned about the dangers of ActiveX

Probably not shocked. I do run Firefox. Again though, your anger seems to be directed at a program that can be replaced, not the OS.

Wonderful. Microsoft is going to allow you to install ActiveX controls without admin priveleges on Vista!

Wow, that was a very nice bit of FUD!!! Did you actually read the comments to that blog? They basically tore the blog apart. Nice try though!

I use Linux. I like Linux. You are a blight on the Linux community. Please get a Mac.
