The best I have found
is a filter that kills everything not in your address book. Kind of hard to implement in a corporate environment, but well worth the hassles involved.

I get 1000+ a day because I was on a discussion list, but none of them make it through. I do have to go in once in a while to check for valid emails, but again, it's well worth it...
