Easy to say I'm wrong
much harder to demonstrate it.

Red Herrings, does not change the fact that Windows machines need AV software.

Actually, it most certainly does change the fact or did you miss this part of my post:
AV software is the worst method of protecting a Windows machine since it is 100% reactive. Sorry, I prefer proactive defenses so I prefer not to rely on AV.

If you had a response to that, I'm sure you would have posted it. happy Even if you don't buy that, it still changes the reason why Windows "needs" AV protection (even though it doesn't need AV protection). No other OS has a 90% desktop marketshare so no other OS is under attack, much like soldiers in Iraq. The proof of this is the countless vulnerabilities and PoC exploits that are constantly being found for Linux and OSX but mysteriously, none of them are ever "released". It shows that both Linux and OSX can be compromised (and the Apple faithful themselves admit that OSX isn't invulnerable, nor is Linux), it just simply isn't attacked.

Still proves they did a lot of exclusionary deals.

Ahh, I didn't think you could argue your way out that one. Fair enough, I accept your retraction.

The hilarious thing about all of this is that you completely ignored my post you originally responded to. You say that Microsoft signed "exclusionary deals" but let me ask you: what OS did they forbid OEMs from selling? It wasn't Apple's OS since Apple refuses to license their OS. It most definately wasn't Linux since I was actually using Linux in 1994 and it was nowhere near ready for the general masses. About the only OS that could possibly have been excluded was OS/2 and from my memory, it was grossly overpriced.

So Mikael_z, how did MS force OEMs to exclude other OSs when there really weren't any other OSs out there available for OEMs to sell? MS was just doing what it should have been doing: trying to sell licenses. Apple and IBM were the ones who created and maintained MS's monopoly by refusing to compete. Or was your post just an excuse for posting about how much you hate MS and didn't really have anything to do with proving me wrong?
