Are you, like George Ou, accusing Apple of fraud?

Nope, not at all. However, George has far more information on this than I do. The worst George could be accused of is releasing information before he was given authority to release the backup for that information.

What would their motivation for this be?

I'm not The Shadow so I don't know what evil lurks in the hearts of men. What do you think George's motivation is for lying about what M&E told him? Someone is lying but I doubt it is George. Is it M&E or Apple though? I don't know which is why I've mostly stayed out of that whole discussion.
