Whether or not you like Microsoft or even Windows does not come much into play when discussing Visual Studio.

1) It is, bar none, the best development environment I have worked in since Borland was a major player.

2) Even if you do not like .Net, you can still write C/C++ in it, as far as I am aware.

3) Microsoft's developer tools and documentation blow away Java's and PHP's.

4) Microsoft understand developers better than any company out there save Borland.

5) Regardless of my persional opinions, someone is paying me to crank out VB.Net code. It has been a long time since someone offered me cold cash to work with Perl, my language of choice.
