Sorry YBK, but you're way off...

A quick read of some white papers turned up some info on a new 400gb drive and software combo Seagate are touting to cable operators and DVR manufacturers featuring DriveTrust, and that IS aimed at media DRM.

The context here though is DRM for the end user - dynamic data created and modified by him or her, not static media owned or licensed by a supplier, and is intended to lock the drive (and its data) to the device, not the data to the device.

The difference is that the encryption key is set by the manufacturer for media DRM, and by the user for personal data DRM.
Although I will concede that future operating systems may adopt hardware key trees, they'd be stupid not to.
