The main purpose of this kind of drive is

Thats fine applied to movies on a player, which is what the system was originally developed for but on a computer system its unworkable unless the key is applied when the file is accessed. Currently its intended to apply the key at boot, locking unauthorized persons (not users) out making your point about DRM moot - it says plainly in the article that the user is to supply a key when the drive is first initialised that will be used at each subsequent boot to allow access to ANY of the data on it.
