Despite the "MS is da debbul" talk that pretty much everyone takes for granted, MS is still obligated to defend its product. Stockholders may or may not give a damn about fair competition, but if someone's activity is blatantly illegal (these guys practically thumb their noses at MS), do you think it will go over well if they say, "yeah, about the whole piracy thing - it's just not worth the trouble."

It might be true, but it would also cause an uproar and give investors plenty of reason to doubt the companies seriousness in protecting itself.

As for China, you can forget it until the institutions are in place to make any kind of a difference in that sort of activity. The justice system is fairly corrupt at worst and ineffectual at best, so there's no chance of dealing with Chinese piracy - for now.
