Linux Geek
Geek, we all know your predilections, but some of us have to work in the real world. I don't know whether you're the CIO of your employer, or just carrying out the orders of others, and I don't care. SOME of us have to actually work with Windows, like it or not-there is simply no percentage in attempting to ignore the dominant OS in the world. Too many apps are designed for Windows (note the correct spelling), and it would take far too much in the way of resources to attempt to rewrite them for Linux. These are FACTS, which is something that you do not seem to be able to grasp. These are real world issues, which cannot be addressed by what YOU would like to happen. Face the FACT that Windows is NOT going away, at least not in the forseeable future. Too many proprietary apps have been written for it; there is not enough market share for Linux to make it worthwhile to write to it. My very rough estimate is that Linux will need a 20%-30% market share before you start seeing a real upswing in the numbers of people writing to it; at least in the corporate world where they are looking to make money. Why do you think that Firefox is popular? Because THERE IS A VERSION COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS. If it were only compatible with Linux, the only people who would have heard of it would be outspoken (to put it kindly) people such as yourself.
