Until the next round
You forget the fact that malware writers also tend to exchange idea and modify THEIR attacks just as quickly - half the time they are looking 10 steps down the road, whilst the fix for the current flaw is being attended to.

The fact that the attack seems to have begun on Linux ans OS X would give a SMART person (which obviously DOESN'T describe you!) a reason to pause before shooting off their mouth.

Rather than all the bickering about what system is the safest (when let's face it, a hack-proof system simply doesn't exist), maybe the attack should instead be turned on the real a**holes - you know, the ones doing the hacking and writing the viruses/malware.

Until we see the establishment of an INTERNATIONAL set of laws that is willing to tackle the problem in a serious manner; until we see the mongrel put away for a bare minimum of 10yrs or more; until we see their kind AGGRESSIVELY hunted down their little fox-holes, then this will continue to be a growing problem for all concerned.

**What you might also want to consider is that not all users WANT all the security protocols that are currently in place in most Linux distros. Just look at the debate with Vista over the UAC - most of us didn't WANT their system locked down that tight.

Personally I would rather see the hackers locked behind bars than feel like I'm the prisoner on my own PC, locked behind a ridiculous amount of security protocols.
