Your Linux box is different than mine
Even after getting in they would still have to find a way to elevate their permissions.

You need root permissions on your machine to send TCP/IP traffic? Wow, that sounds like a huge security risk if you need to run your browser as root!! I've gone with an arguably safer (and the default) approach of allowing limited rights accounts to send TCP/IP traffic but that is the beauty of Linux, you can do almost anything you want!

Also, even if you did happen to need root to send TCP/IP data, considering that we all need to supply our root passwords to run any package manager, and considering that, were Linux to get massively popular with the... um... not so computer savvy, how long until grandma and grandpa run FREE_DANCING_ELVES.rpm just to see those oh so cute dancing elves? They won't think twice about entering their root password, they had to do that when they installed tux racer, right? You mean FREE_DANCING_ELVES.rpm now has root privileges? Oh. Carry on then.
