That's kind of what I thought. I am a heavy user (not a power user) from back to the DOS 1.2 days. But I am not keen on mucking about under the hood. I have used Norton for the very beganing but the last few years it seemed to be dragging the machines down more and more. I also traced some application software problems back to Norton. So I have been following the AV discussions with some interst. About a month ago I uninstalled Norton from all our machines and have been testing some alternates. The machines are much happier now.

My first thought was that an AV that didn't access the core would cause less application problems, but on XP the APIs are already there so not useing them would not be an advantage, and would reduce security,,right?
