Given time, the hackers will get into the kernel, whether MS gives that access to the AV vendors or not. It's inevitable.

The only real issue here is competition in the market place. If they don't give access to the kernel to AV vendors, MS will eventually own that sector of the business as well. Then your only option for AV services will be MS. Maybe that's something people prefer, I don't know.

I just don't think this whole issue is about the security of Vista as most people believe. I think it has very little to do with security.
