Passwords are simple
One long, random password is all you need.

Its better and more effective to use the same, long 20 or 30 character password than to use a different, shorter password for everything.

Assuming you don't dislose that one, long password to anyone.

Eliminates dictionairy attacks and brute force. Plus you won't need to change it as often since the longer the password, the more time you need to break it. A short or long password won't matter if there are weaknesses that can be exploited in the password mechanism. Also assuming that the system supports a long password. Which version of Windows was it that only used the first 7 or 8 characters and dropped the rest??
