I'm afraid I completely do not understand your reply. What key??? If there's a key, it would belong to the user (you). But more likely the write-protect is simply accomplished by storing the program data in a ROM chip. The objective is simple: prevent software (malicious, accidental, or otherwise) from changing the bits that don't need to change.
