Things apparently are worse than what appear to be ??
"Kernel patch protection is not a silver bullet. We're not saying no one will ever crack it," Stephen Toulouse, a program manager in Microsoft's Security Technology Unit, wrote on his blog last week. "The point is that the situation as it exists now? attackers don't need to do any work to access the kernel at the highest level. At least with kernel patch protection, we're trying to prevent that."

I wonder if despite the feverish efforts to produce patches and fixes, the MS windows kernel is still not much better than before ??? It appears that the effort focused on the already exploited / known vulnerabilities and not much was done in the kernel itself.

From the above statements it appears to me that MS makes an effort to correct things omly after the fact, after a vulnerability has been disclosed.

Worse, it appears that the new security mechanisms in the kernel are not even claimed to be foolproof right from the start. I hope that this is just modesty and not signs of lack of confidence in it.
