Tech Crashed When Activation Appeared
Keep in mind that the tech crash of several years back happened when MS introduced activation for Office and then for Windows XP.

My sense is that this is the primary reason for the huge PC and software slump that is now several years old.

MS I think knows this; hence they have mandatory corporate upgrades secured via "Licensing 6".

Everybody else is now moving to captivation (sometimes called activation) of the end user in hopes of securing similar gains; what these captivated lock-happy dim-wits do not understand is that MS has a forced-buy system in Licensing 6, whereas consumers can choose to buy other than bound and gagged free-standing software.

I used to use Norton Ghost 2002, but when I heard that all new Synantec wares are to be activated I went with Paragon Hard Disk Manager 5.5. It includes a Ghost-like utility that is more elegant, and an excellent partution manager that's better than PartitionMagic (just bought by Symantec).

With the Paragon product there is no activation and you get 5 times the applications for the price of one Symantec app like Ghost.

Activation, Captivation, whatever. It ain't for we PolarUpgraders.
