A good move despite the curve
I agree with the idea of there being a learning curve, and I also agree that this is the way to go, but this is going to be an interesting change for many people.

I can just imagine a user like my mom who is suddenly unable to even use Yahoo messenger to send files or use the webcam. Trying to get them to understand that the ports are blocked could be like trying to explain nuclear physics to Cletus the slack-jawed yokel.

It's not that they are DUMB, but when the running gag of the 80's and 90's was "well, he's smart enough to get his VCR to stop blinking 12:00" just goes show us that 90-some percent of the population isn't savvy or motivated enough to understand, and ultimately there could be a lot of people using what amounts to highly crippled machines.

That being said, to reiterate, it's absolutely a great direction to go. Rather than have all the security off, it's time to tighten it down. People often say Windows was flawed by designed, and that's because it was designed to be unsecure and easy for Joe Q. Public. I guess you can say that it's a "flaw" for a PC to be too easy (think "slutty" like that cheerleader you knew in highschool), but at least you can usually get it to do things you want. Hopefully the industry will embrace this move forward by proactively helping the non-savvy to get through this while not shutting down every feature.
